Think We've Found Our Venue

Mike and myself went looking at a venue on Friday. I absolutely adored the place, and Mike approved (he's very "it's your day"), so I have scheduled a follow-up day to walk around the venue while they are setting up for an event. So far it is just my mother and myself going, on August 7th. I did invite Mike's sister to come along because I know its important to her to be included, and I would love to have her approval as well.

I'm sure its going to be a BIG thumbs up from everyone. After that I'll schedule a date to come back with Mike and my parents so we can talk about the contract. When we walked through the manor I could just see myself getting married there... it gives off that southern charm that I love and I think it fits my small but elegant theme that I am aiming for.

I am so happy. I've never attended any prom of mine, never really did anything special for my 16th, 18th, 21st birthday... its just not me, but I do want a very nice elegant wedding and thinking that I am actually going to acheive it, it's just... wonderful. No other words come to mind right now. Ha.

Anyhow... we attended the wedding of a friend of Mike's on Saturday, which had to be the hottest day in Maryland... EVER! The wedding was so sweet and the touches were just so right and beautiful. They were married outside and ice cold tea and lemonade was near the seats in order to help people cool off. Fans were given as momentos, which helped a great deal... and they were able to find some fans for the reception area. Mike and I sweat like we've never sweat before, but we had fun. I even was able to get him up and do the "cha cha slide" with me. It was such a great group of people and I wish we could of stayed around for the bowling after party, but after dancing and being in the heat all day, it just became too much...

Heather & Mo'... you guys had an absolutely beautiful wedding & we wish you the most happiest in the next many many years to come! Congrats!

Busy...Busy... Busy

Class has started for me(Melissa) this week, and it has started off running, that's for sure. However, the instructor is really nice and so far my clinical instructor seems very nice (met her today briefly and I will have clinical orientation tomorrow). I scored an 80 on my first quiz and a 90 on my second quiz (out of 10 questions), so I'm pretty happy with that too.

Tomorrow a few girls that I went to Southeastern (a 1/2 day tech school I attended in H.S.) are coming over for abit. They all have children, so they are bringing them to swim while we catch up with each other. I had one a few years back, but I want to try and make sure we keep in contact more often, we were such good friends in high school. Mike will be meeting two of them for the first time, so I'm really happy about that too. With our schedules (mainly mine) there are very FEW chances that I get to introduce him to my friends, and these girls have meant the world to me over the years.

On Friday we FINALLY get to check out a wedding venue that I am really excited about! I will try to write about it on Saturday or Sunday, while everything is fresh in my mind.
In the evening my parents, myself, Mike, his father (Mr Neils), and his sister (Karyn), are going out to eat at Gunnings... this very yummy seafood place in Hanover, Maryland. I can't wait. Karyn introduced the place to me last year and I was delighted... I'm sure it will be a treat.

Saturday we're going to Heather & Mo's wedding (friends of Mike's) and I'm sure it's going to absolutely beautiful. I can't wait, I don't get a chance to attend many weddings so I'm excited about this too. Mike also mentioned about attending an "after party" at a bowling alley around them too. Should be fun because we are apparently renting out a private area? I may post a few pictures of the wedding we'll attend and of the venue site, so look for those.

In other news... I have broken out in a rash on my neck. NOT FUN! To say the very least!!! I went to patient first because Benadryl just was not cutting it... and it was getting worse. I am now on predinsone for it, and it seems to be helping so far. It is either from some cherries I ate on Saturday (because I've never had cherries before until that day) or the PA thinks I may of brush against something that caused this God awful skin reaction. Don't worry I wont horrify you with pictures... I promise.

Whelp... that is all.

Reiki

I spent the last couple of days at Mike's house... his AC was broke during the heat wave we've been having (100 + degrees in 3 days!), and it was FINALLY fixed. Their temperature gauge is huge and basically a night light, its so bright. But, the house was finally cool to where I didn't have to worry about it bothering me and being that I'll be taking the accelerated course coming up, I wanted to make sure we spent more time together.

Speaking of which... I've been able to get through the first day readings and I think my brain is turning to mush. So much to do and prepare for, but I can do it... no worries.

Today, an RN that is a clinical instructor for my college allowed some of the people from my graduating class to come to her house and learn about Reiki (she's a Reiki Master). It was so interesting and I allowed myself to become the guinea pig/test dumby. To say the least it was really relaxing, I can see how it can work on people. You never know... maybe I will attempt that next? ;)

Also, Mike's sister, Karyn and myself ironed down a day where we can get our families together to eat crabs! I can't wait. We went to the same place in Columbia last year and I fell in love with it. I've never had such big crabs that were seasoned just right, in my life! Then the following weekend Mike's family will be coming over to allow the nephews a chance to swim, and to have our families get together again. By that time we should know if we've liked the wedding venue we're going to check out at the end of the month.

That's pretty much everything going on right now... Work tomorrow for me, and of course Mike has weekends off (so lucky).

First Day of Blogging

I figured that once Mike has a website of ours up and running, that a blog would be a fun way to allow our friends/family access to see what is going on in our life/wedding planning.

Mike and myself (Melissa) were engaged last August (Aug. 29th, 2009 to be exact), but we have been together since June 18th, 2008. We are currently planning a wedding for October 12th, 2012... Mike wanted it to be the day the world will end (Dec 21st, 2012), BUT I refuse AND it IS a day in the MIDDLE of the week (we've picked to get married on a Friday)... not to mention it would be incredibly cold!

So, a nice beginning of fall wedding it will be. Our colors are chocolate brown & pink. And so far that is all we have.

We're going to be looking at a place that was featured on "Whose Wedding is it Anyway?" this month and if Mike and myself approve of the venue, then we will go back with our families to book the event. With this venue, whatever the price is at the time of booking, is the price you pay... so if the price goes up in the next two years, we wont have to worry about it. In the end it would save us some money. Which, let's face it... now a days that is what everyone is aiming to do.

Why is our wedding so far away? Well I do not graduate from my nursing program til this winter (December) and we want to make sure that most, if not all, of our school bills are paid and we have some sort of single family home or townhome before we marry. We felt that the fall of 2012 would give us enough time to do everything without rushing, and give me the cooler weather without freezing that I want.

So... this is our "intro" for our blog. Hope our family & friends & whomever stumble upon us enjoy everything. I will update this from time to time, and I am not sure if Mike will get into this. I will update about our life and our wedding... so check back soon!

Much Love ♥
